Delonix regia

 

Description

Delonix regia is a deciduous tree growing up to 15 m. It has grey and smooth bark, a short trunk with buttress roots. Each leaf is composed of many small pinnae. Flowers are large and bright red, blooming in big numbers sometimes making the whole tree looking red like a flame, explaining its name as Flame tree.


Place of origin

Madagascar

Ethnobotanical uses

Delonix regia is often planted in parks, gardens and roadsides due to its bright red flowers and tolerance of poor growing conditions of urban landscapes. It also makes an excellent shade or focal point tree.
